Anakin's dream about Padme

Just thought I'd put this up here for fun. Feel free to express your opinion on this in a message reply too - I think everyone would like to read them (I would).

I personally think he was likely meant to die killing Palpatine (as he did at the end of ROTJ), and that she would have willed herself to death when she found out he was dead (her foreshadowing line in AOTC - "I'm dying a little bit each day", like his "I can't breathe ..."). So that he was seeing her death, with him not present because he was already dead (at least at first). As it went along, he might have seen something similar happening (as it did) because he had turned to the dark.

Aaack! I typoed a poll question - the word in reply #3 should be "Palps", not "Pasps."

i can se where you are coming from crystalcat..but i think that palps sent the dream..because he knew that Anakin would stop at nothing to save Padme if believed, even the tiniest bit, that she was going to die..He loved her that much..and Palps knew it..

I chose "the dream was just a regular dream, not prophetic", mainly because no other choice fit. I think it was prophetic and that Palps did NOT send it.

I think that, had Anakin died killing Palpatine so that they were both dead, Padme might have lived, since Anakin would have died a hero.

Now that I read the choices again, I should have chosen the second one.

I picked up answer n°4, for it was prophetic.

What had to happen, had to happen, no matter Anakin's desperate efforts for preventing it from occurring. Meaning, he played God by trying to interfere with events, a thing he's been warned about earlier on by Obi-Wan. His interference cost him to turn to the Dark Side, and Padmé passed away nerverthless, which haunted him for years...

I picked the one where he dies killing Palpatine, because it is so true. Palpatine was a strong opponent, and it seems apparent that Padme would struggle to live without him.

However, I am writing a story right now that appeals to a different choice...

It was a hard call, but I went with she'd have died anyway. Maybe it was like Yoda said, and maybe she was going to die in childbirth even if he didn't turn. But then again, I can't help thinking that really it was a self fulfilling prophecy of doom, and she only died because he tried to stop it the wrong way, but what choice would that be on the poll? Also I can't rule out that Palps sent it.

That would be "she only dies if he turns to the dark side." At least, that's what I meant by that choice when I wrote it. It has a letter limit, so it's hard to get anything very long there.

palps totally sent the dream knowing that anakin would do anything...and palps knows it will work because anakin told him about his dreams of his mother, so palps got the evilest idea to make a dream like that

To induce a dream to someone has barely chances to succeed, especially in Anakin's case, since he got the first one on his own, without having anyone helping him to get it. What I mean is, Chosen Ones are induced visions by forces much stronger than Palpatine himself, divine forces you can't control, that's the point.

For to be prophetic, a dream has to be a message sent from those of above, it can't be otherwise. And even for a dark soul such as Palpatine's, to play God, to imagine you can command a force well above oneself is foolish to try, even though he knew Anakin's concerns.

My point is, he used the dream to his advantage when Anakin told him about it, he didn't brought it up.

I feel Anakin had dreams even of his mother..... I think if he left earlier he would have saved his mother... The dream of Padme was prophetic, but didn't Yoda say be careful when seeing the future as it has not occured yet? It a future that might be? Anakin's turning to the dark side, almost strangling Padme, is what gave her no will to live. They induced the births, which wouldn't have happened if Anakin didn't strangler her and turned...... thus I still feel the births is not what killed her but she gave up the will to live, hence dying because Anakin Broke Her Heart when he turned to the Dark SIde and did all those terrible things.

So in a nutshell, I don't feel that she would have died anyway...... the dreams were of what could/would come, Anakin made that dream come true, unbeknownest to himself of course.

What you're saying is very true, and I can only agree with, for indeed, it's the very tricky part of foreseeing the future as it has not occurred yet. For none can't tell if the event will have taken place on the short or long term, not even I.

Not really, for it's out of his very own fear it would occur that brought him to make this dream come true, and that's what made him suffer all the more when the truth sank in. Hasn't he not given away to his fears and anger, he wouldn't have turned and harmed Padmé into the process. Padmé symbolizes the persons we wish to never hurt but do nevertheless, when we take the wrong choices and carry them out. A lesson Anakin learnt the hard way, and that I can comprehend readily.

This is indeed quite very correct, save that in reality, you don't lure people into the Dark Side by sending them dreams, or visions of a future which hasn't occurred yet, DarthAnakin, as I've explained why a few posts above. It's too much fairy tale-like to believe.

Palpatine lured Anakin across his gulf of emotions whom went gradually unleashed, as his anguish over Padmé's Fate grew, according to the message the dream sent to him. And Anakin's other mistake has justly been to confide too much into Palpatine, rather than into Obi-Wan, therein explaining Mace's remark:

"I don't trust him. I don't like to see them together."

My guess is that Mace got the insight of Anakin's naive trust into Palpatine, and Anakin understood it too late, just like anyone who's been emotionally manipulated.

i think that it was a vision, like that was going to happen in consecuence for his actions, he only did not know what they happen
