I was noticing that in a lot of our stories, we either take shots at or have the Jedi abolishing the Padawan hairdo. So I am guessing that most of us dislike it. I know I do! Luke never had one, and I can't help but think the only reason it was even invented is because the spikey look was in when TPM came out and it was a fad that worked its way into the show.(though it was a galaxy far away and long ago so earth of 1999 should not affect it) I remember thinking how awful little Anakin looked at the end but how that was supposed to be 'cute.' Then to make matters worse, they added a stumpy ponytail and a long skinny braid! What a multi leveled mess! Now, the braid is kind of a good idea because they use it to show and make rank, but the entire 'do itself is unbearable. What do you think?
oh and please tell me girl Jedi didn't have to have it too?

I always found it very silly, not to mention very ridiculous, even if it was to state your rank within the Jedi Order.
Let's be straight: I was very annoyed by it, and was quite glad when Anakin's been allowed to let his hair grown to his shoulders, as his eldest, at the exception he didn't grown any beard, another rank distinction, it seems.

I agree... I hate it!
And by the way, girls DID have to have the braid, but their hair stayed long...
All in all, Anakin looks INCALCULABLY better without it and with long wavy hair!

Hate is a bit too strong of a word; I simply don't care for it. The braid is one thing; I can see having some outward indication that the person is still in training - something the general public can see in case something goes wrong. But I think Annie is right - most of the hairstyle was done to conform to the "look" of the present day when the film was made. Interestingly enough, the ponytail was not. It echoes the look of the samarai warriors (the mature warriors, not the apprentices, however).
And Yoda's speech pattern was also made to imitate Japanese (and/or Korean) grammar, which requires the verb to be at the end of the sentance.

Thanks for voting! I thought a lot of you would agree, it was a bad look, and Anakin was so much hotter in ROTS!

The haircut is awful. It looked awful on Anakin and also on Obi-wan in Phantom Menace. Both guys looked much better after they got to grow it out. I think it's a bad idea too. The strange haircut would seem to be a distraction from Jedi training. In addition to the hair, the jedi need a complete fashion makeover because fighting with those robes and saggy sleeves must interfere with movement.

I said I don't mind it one way or the other. Look at it this way: Other than announcing to the rest of the galaxy that "I am a Jedi padawan", getting rid of the braid and short hair is one more thing to strive for. ;D

But they have to have it like that for so long! If it were only a couple years I could stand it but the thought of someone having to keep it like that for about 20 years gives me the shivers!
Maybe Mace Windu hated it so much that's why he got shaved bald!

i think obi wan looked better with the braid than anakin did, i really like him with his long hair, like in the picture Darth Anakin has
