By request, I am providing a brief (very brief) synopsis of the plot of The 10th Kingdom. However, as stated before, you do NOT need to know anything about it in order to understand the story The Star Kingdom. In fact, it might make a slightly better story if you don't know because then you would have a chance to be surprised by their actions.
However ... here goes (I'll provide names of the actors who played the parts if they're well known):
Prince Wendell White's (grandson of Snow White) 21st birthday is coming up, and he will be crowned king of the 4th Kingdom (which is the high king) on that day, providing he can satisfy the high council (composed of the rulers of the other 8 kingdoms) that he is fit for the job. This satisfaction is mostly just a ritual - he must provide instances where he demonstrated bravery and intelligence. He's getting crowned so young because his parents are both dead, victims of an evil witch who used to be his nanny (Mom was killed first; then Dad married the nanny, who subsequently killed him), and then his wicked stepmother. This Evil Queen (played by Dianne Weist) is currently in the Snow White Memorial Prison under maximum security, though she has been permitted to keep her pet golden retriever with her.
The story begins with Wendell, who is a spoilt brat, about to pay a required visit to his stepmother in the prison on the same day that the Troll King (played by Ed O'Neill) is going there to break his three loser children out. The Troll King gets there first and frees his kids; at that point he becomes a victim of the Evil Queen, who puts a spell on him to get him to unlock her cell. He does so, and they form an alliance to take over all the kingdoms together. When Wendell gets there, she sics the dog, who has been pre-conditioned with a magic spell for this purpose, on him, and Wendell's spirit becomes trapped in the dog's body and the dog's spirit takes Wendell's place in his body. Her plan is to put the real king in a kennel for the rest of his life, but he runs away. She sends the troll siblings after him, but realizes that they're a bunch of idiots, so she finds a werewolf (called a half-wolf in this story) in prison, and makes a deal with him that she'll set him free if he does her bidding. He agrees, and chases the dog Wendell into the prison basement
It just so happens that there is an old, discarded traveling mirror in the prison basement, and when Wendell crashes into it, it falls down and turns itself on. He jumps through to get away and Wolf (the same Wolf in my story) follows after him. They end up in Central Park in NYC. Wendell crashes into Virginia, who is riding her bike to work and knocks her down. She takes pity on the dog, who she figures is a stray and takes him with her. Due to the nature of the mirror, Wolf arrives in a slightly different location, but he is good at tracking them. Wolf ends up at Virginia's apartment, which she shares with her father, Tony (played by John Larroquette), but Virginia isn't there. Using a combination of Persuasion (a natural magical talent half-wolfs possess, which is almost identical to the Jedi Mind Trick) and outright bribery, Wolf convinces Tony to tell him where Virginia is (at her grandmother's). As a reward, Wolf gives Tony a Dragon Dung Bean, which grants the swallower five wishes (after he stops puking).
At Grandma's Wolf gets in and attacks Virginia, but she fights back and shoves him out a window. She and Wendell the dog run away and meet up with Tony, who is running from the police after four of the wishes have gone terribly wrong. They think the dog is acting strange, so Tony uses the last wish to wish he can understand the dog. It's the only wish that doesn't backfire and he's thereafter able to understand the transformed Prince, who tells them about the mirror and convinces them to come back with him to save his kingdom. So they go (but mostly because they're being chased).
As soon as Wolf had gotten a good look at Virginia (while he was attacking her) he fell in love with her at first sight (he told her this, too, but surprisingly enough, she didn't believe it). So he follows her back through the mirror, only now it isn't to help the Evil Queen, it's to win her love in return.
A lot of adventures ensue, including a scary full moon werewolf scene, and one with a Star Wars-like twist that has to do with Virginia's backstory. And of course at the end, Virginia falls in love with Wolf, the Evil Queen is vanquished, and a Wendell who's learned his lesson is returned to the throne. In addition, Virginia finds out she is pregnant. The couple return to New York, and the last lines are a voice-over of Virginia, promising more adventures.
Except that the whole thing did not get good "ratings" so no sequel was ever made.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, and PLEASE tell me if there's anything in the story that totally loses you when you read it - it needs to be fixed if so.
