Dreaming of a New Life
Prologue
Princess Padme Naberrie dreamed of a life living above the water-she had heard stories from her sisters who had ventured up there on their 15th Birthday and it sounded so magical. She would listen to grandmother about what they would do up there and how they lived. It was sad to hear that they could have their life cut so short and don’t live as long as mermaids did. She wanted desperately to live on the land and be a human but her father had said her place was down here and be with her family. Every night, she dreamt of living on the surface and falling in love.
Prince Anakin Skywalker was being pressured by his father, the King to be married so he may have a Queen by his side when he to be King but Anakin would not have it. He had not truly fallen in love yet. There were millions of young girls who were dying for the young prince to pick them but he was not ready yet. He would instead spend his days, playing down on the beach with his animas, where he could get away from the pressures of being told to find a woman to marry and soon.
Chapter 1
The day of Padme’s 15th birthday had finally arrived and her sisters, father and grandmother are celebrating with her but she can’t wait to visit the surface. Just when it was nearing sunset, she says her goodbye and heads to the surface where she feels she should be. She is looking at her the beautiful buildings when she hears music and a ship in the distance, swimming closer for a better look. She sees a young handsome, blond hair man boarding the ship with more of his kind. She is smitten with him and swims closer to ship, hoping to get a closer look at him.
Anakin knew that somewhere in this trip for the day-his friend would start talking about how he will soon find a girl to marry and he was becoming bored. He did not see the beautiful mermaid peeking through the rails on the side at him. The ship was sailing smoothly and he was starting to enjoy himself when the waves became choppy and the sky began to darken with dark clouds. Everyone began slipping and holding on, when a huge wave swept the side of the ship, knocking Anakin out of the boat. Padme who had been watching the handsome prince from afar, jumped back into the water before it was too late.
She was seeing the Prince fall deep into the water and knew that she had to save him. Swimming as fast as her fin could go, she had reached the prince and using all her strength, she pulled the, now unconscious, prince to the surface of the water and onto dry land. She laid him on the sand and waits with him, hoping for him to wake up. She just watched him lay there and after a while, her heart lifted when she saw him breathing-“so gently” she thought as she ran her fingers through his soft, golden blond hair and began to sing to him using her beautiful voice. Just when his eyes begin to open, she hears voices and jumps back into the room, hiding among the rocks as she sees a young girl approach the Prince
Chapter 2
Anakin’s eyes flutter open and he sees a young girl with big blue eyes staring at him, she steps back when she realises who it is, “Your highness” she says, as he sits up, “What happened?” he asked, “How did I get here?” he asked as she smiled, “The king is worried, apparently you were swept off your ship in a storm and they couldn’t find you” she told him as he looked at her, “I’ll take you back if you like” she offered, helping him up, holding him so he didn’t wobble and slowly headed back to the castle.
Padme had been watching from a distance, he did not see her and he no idea who saves him. She longed to be with him as she began to whisper words from her song “Wonder if I could be? Wish I could be. Part of your world!” laying back down on the rock, her images were of the tall, handsome Prince-he may never know who had saved him from drowning, although she wished he could met her.
The King was becoming very worried-still no word on the whereabouts of his son and he was becoming to think the worse when his son’s friend came running in, “Your majesty! He’s here!” he exclaimed as the King stepped off his throne, “Bring him here quickly” he ordered as the door opened and in came his son, he smiled at him, “Sorry to make you worried father” he told him as he embraced him, “I’m just glad to see you alright and alive” he replied as Anakin returned the embrace and the King quickly ordered that he be taken to change into clean clothes and warm blankets from his night outside in the cold waters.
Padme returns to her home under the sea where she found her grandmother alone with some objects of her desire, “Hello darling. How was your trip to the surface?” she asked as Padme grinned, “I loved it” she replied then she had to ask something, “Gramdmother, can humans live forever?” she asked as she looked her, a sad look on her face, “I’m afraid not dear. You see humans have an even shorter lifespan than we do.” She replied as Padme sat in front of her, looking up in interest as she went on “You see we live for 300 years and then when we die turn into sea form and cease to exist but humans, have a short lifespan on earth but one eternal soul that lives on in heaven after they die” she finished as Padme was amazed, “Forever and forever?” she asked as she nodded, watching Padme swim off to her alcove room where she spends her time dreaming about the handsome Prince, wishing she could be with him and have an eternal soul forever and ever but she doesn’t know how she can get it.
One night, when she is out swimming, she meets a mermaid who tells her that the Palpatine, the Sea Witch, can help her. Now Padme was worried about this-her father had always warned her about him and never to go to him for anything but Padme was desperate and wanted to be with the Prince. So she followed the stranger through the dark, deep tunnels to Palpatine’s lair. She begins to think this is a bad idea when she swooped upon by Palpatine, his eerie voice made her tremble, “My dear, princess. What brings you to me?” he asked as she stuttered, “I want legs to live on the surface” she replied as he laughed, “I can do that for you, with this” he said, holding a small potion vial “But this isn’t free. There is a price” he said, “What is it?” she asked, “Your voice” he said, she stops. Should she do this? She had the most beautiful voice in the world-was she willing to give it up for legs? There is more to the deal as Palpatine explains by drinking the potion it will make her feel like a sword is being passed through her and walking on her feet will feel like dancing on knives. And she will only get a soul if the Prince loves and marries her, because a part of his soul will flow into her. If at dawn on the first day, he marries another woman, Padme will die broken hearted and turn into sea form like every other merfolk.
Padme is willing to allow this because she knows that she can do this and drinks the potions and feels herself transforming into human, struggling to swim underwater on her legs and soon finds herself on land, struggling on the beach with her new legs. She is walking slowly when she falls into the arms of someone, looking up, it is the Prince, she saved from drowning, “Lucky I was here to catch you” he smiled, he had the beautiful smile she had ever seen, “What’s your name?” he asked, she started to speak when nothing came out, “Oh no voice” he answered, sounding sad until a friend of her’s who had been following her popped up, “Padme. Her name is Padme” he told her, “Padme, what a lovely name” he told her as she smiled, looking into his eyes as he held her close leading her back to the castle.
Anakin doesn’t much about the new girl because she is mute but he is attracted to her beauty and grace, someone he could love unlike other girls. He loves to see her dance and she dances beautifully for him because she wants him to fall in love with her even if she feels like dancing on knives. Anakin loves her like one loves a child.
