That was a great plan, getting rid of the suit and taking him to the doctor as Anakin Skywalker! Then if they ever find the burned remains with the helmet they'll think Vader is dead! I liked the interchanges of the older people who'd known Anakin and questioned Luke's paternity. Yeah, why didn't they ever make the connection of the name being Skywalker? So I guess they all thought poor Anakin had been tortured all those years by the Empire instead of being a part of it! That should work!
I'm not really sure what to make of the end. He's not dead, and it's not his dream, is it Anakin's? From the bacta tank? Or Obi-Wan's? I know there's a very cool deep meaning here but I'm too dense to get it right now. I just hope Anakin is still alive!
I also hope you will honor us with a sequel some day if you ever get around to it. This is a great short story but could be a great whole story too if you continue and I hope you do! Great work!

I'm not really sure what to make of the end. He's not dead, and it's not his dream, is it Anakin's? From the bacta tank? Or Obi-Wan's? I had in mind it being Anakin's, but I had a bit of trouble getting it across, since I didn't want to belabor it or switch out from Luke's point of view - I really wanted it to be like that last scene in the movie. I came up with the idea of it being Anakin's dream because he's not dressed like the Anakin of old; he's dressed like the Obi-Wan of Luke's time (even though it's the young Anakin). The old Jedi order didn't dress that way, so my thought is that if he was going to be a Force-ghost and not dress in black, he'd at least have dressed in an outfit similar to the YOUNG Obi-Wan. So I came up with it being his dream where he saw himself dressed as Obi-Wan the last time he'd seen him (or as Obi-Wan the Force ghost, as I would suppose the ghost could appear to Anakin as well as to Luke). I was sort of thinking that the two ghosts (Yoda and Obi-Wan) visited Anakin in a dream, and that Luke saw it. Doing the whole thing this way, I thought I could make the case for Anakin NOT dying at the end of ROTJ without changing anything that was actually in the movie. That's what this story is.

This is a very well told story that really puts the reader in the mood and takes you to the scene. This ending is better than the ending of the movie ROTJ. You saved him and gave him hope for the future but the entire saga didn't change. I like what you did with the characters a lot and would be interested in a sequel to find out more, because it is a new beginning at the end, huh?
